Change of Thrones
UP Cookout is
the biggest and most awaited event in the University of the Philippines
Cebu. It is an annual event that showcases different UP talents in the four segments
of Kantahan, Sayawan, Bandahan, and Rampahan, in an event that lasts from 6 in the evening to 6 in the morning on November 13, 2015.
Year after year, the event gains an audience of more than 2,500 people --
ranging from university students to young adults who are eager to be a part of
this UP tradition of thirty-seven years. Cookout boasts an impressive roaster
of past guest performers, the most recent of which, Urbandub, a homegrown band
here in Cebu; preceding them are performers such as Looney, DJ Buddha, and
Slapshock among other. For this year, UP Cookout will have Rivermaya as their main
guest performer along with Powerspoonz and Missing Filemon.

Council Chairperson Justine Raphael Luis Balane said that Cookout recognizes the importance of engaging the youth in different
societal issues.
“This year, Cookout
sets its eyes on the upcoming 2016 elections; seeing the need for a more
educated and conscious voting population,” he said.
This leads the team to collaborate with the First Time Voter’s Network, a
collective of concerned, independent organizations and other student councils
in Cebu City that aims to spread the culture of informed voting great
opportunities.

Overall Director Juli Ann Sibi said that each of the four segments carry
different calls of action regarding the upcoming national elections.
Sibi said that
Kantahan: Hear us Roar will highlight the voice of the youth to start the furor
of a nation distressed. Sayawan: Fire and Passion will showcase moves to serve
and protect the people for change to come.
“Moreover,
Bandahan: Ours is the Fury and Rampahan: Change is Coming will highlight the
call for a great change in the system,” she said.
